Equivalent annual cost

A town can buy pump A for $48,000 (operating $6,500 a year, salvage $4,000) or pump B for $62,000 ($4,200 a year, salvage $6,000). Both last 10 years. At 6%, which has the lower equivalent annual cost, and by how much?

Original problems

New problems for every syllabus topic, never copied from past papers.

Worked solution4 steps
  1. Capital recovery(A/P, 6%, 10) = 0.13587
  2. Sinking fund(A/F, 6%, 10) = 0.07587
  3. Pump A48,000(0.13587) + 6,500 − 4,000(0.07587) = $12,718
  4. Pump B62,000(0.13587) + 4,200 − 6,000(0.07587) = $12,169
  5. Pump B costs $550 a year less.

Your road to a P.Eng

Technical exams come early on the road to a P.Eng. CertNova covers the steps after them too, so one team stays with you from your assessment letter to your licence.

  1. Academic assessment

Your regulator compares your degree with the Canadian standard and may assign technical exams.

  2. Technical exams

  5. Your P.Eng licence

Once your exams, the NPPE and your experience are accepted, your regulator can grant the licence.

  • “This was a wonderful Experience. Hossein and Jenny were very helpful and prompt to reply to my emails and questions. Hossein got on a call with me before enrolling just to answer my questions. The review for my CBA questions was detailed, thorough with clear direction on what needs to be done to improve which made it very easy for me to fix my answers. They gave me a time for looking into my CBA questions. They ended up delivering early than promised. Finally, they are very fairly priced. Definitely recommend their service for anyone looking to get someone to assess their CBA answers.”

  • “I had a great experience using CertNova throughout my P.Eng application process. Their software made the competency-based assessment much easier to navigate and helped me organize and present my engineering experience in a clear and structured way. What really stood out, though, was the support from Reza and Hossein. They were knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping me through the process. Their guidance helped me better understand what was expected and gave me much more confidence in preparing my submission. I would highly recommend CertNova to anyone going through the P.Eng licensing process in Canada. The combination of a well-designed platform and excellent personal support made a complicated process feel much more manageable.”

  • “I used CertNova to review and refine my Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) for my P.Eng. application, and the experience has been very valuable. Their team provided clear, detailed feedback that helped me better align my competency examples with the EGM's expectations and significantly improved the structure and quality of my submissions. What stood out most was their strong understanding of the CBA framework and their ability to identify gaps in my examples that I would have otherwise missed. Their comments were practical, precise, and easy to apply, which saved me a considerable amount of time during revisions and reduced the stress of the resubmission process. The support was professional, responsive, and focused on helping me strengthen my application rather than just making superficial edits. I would highly recommend CertNova to anyone preparing or revising their CBA competencies for their P.Eng. application.”

When does prep open?

In January 2027, the month PEO takes registrations for its Spring/Summer 2027 sitting (January 4 to 29), whose exams run from April to July. The first exams are 11-CS-1, 16-Civ-A1 and 16-Civ-A2, and waitlist members hear first.

PEO exam dates

What will it cost?

Waitlist members get access for $1 when prep opens in January 2027. We will email the details before launch.

Do you help after the technical exams?

Yes. Technical exams come early on the road to a P.Eng. NPPE Pro prepares you for the National Professional Practice Exam, CBA Pro helps you write up your experience for the competency-based assessment, and competencybasedassessment.ca has free guides to the whole P.Eng process.

See the whole path

Is CertNova part of PEO or Engineers Canada?

No. CertNova is independent. It is not a regulator, is not affiliated with Professional Engineers Ontario, Engineers Canada or any provincial regulator, and has no say in which exams you are assigned or how they are marked.

Do you use real past exams?

For each exam we read up to 14 sittings of published past papers to see which syllabus topics come up and how often. We do not copy, reword or sell those papers. Every problem we publish is written new and checked by a P.Eng.

Read our method

My exam is not on the list. Can I still join?

Yes. Type it in your own words. We count every exam people ask for, and the most requested move up the build order.

Where do the exam codes come from?

From the Engineers Canada examination syllabus, which several regulators use when they assign technical exams. Your assessment letter lists the exact codes you need.

How exams are assigned

Can the CBA replace my exams?

Sometimes. APEGS, Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (since July 2025) and EGBC (under its Policy 1.C) let some applicants waive confirmatory exams through the competency-based assessment. The rules are narrow, so check yours.
